Great news! PBS is featuring a "theme evening" on Wednesday, May 18. We can watch three hours of Egyptology, including the Sphinx and the Solar Barque. I was lucky enough to visit Egypt a few years ago, and was struck dumb by the amazing engineering the Egyptians used all those millennia ago. The Solar Barque was constructed, then carefully deconstructed and buried at the foot of the Great Pyramid for the Pharaoh's afterlife. Discovered in the 20th Century and reassembled, it only required new ropes and one replacement plank for its successful "test run." Displayed with steps and ramps surrounding it, the Barque is amazing just for its sheer size!
Now for us Agatha Christie fans, David Suchet returns on Sunday, May 22's Masterpiece Mystery. Probably her most famous story, Murder on the Orient Express is followed by an hour-long special which documents David Suchet, sans moustaches, on a real train trip.
